Glass grit blasting is a low cost and low impact media, often used for vehicle and automotive part refurbishment. Glass is one of the least aggressive blasting medias compared to some of our other grit blasting solutions. However, it is still an excellent choice for applications that require the surface material to have a softer or brighter finish. It is well suited for stainless steel applications. The glass beads that are used in the blasting can also be recycled multiple times making it an environmentally friendly process.
Because of its less abrasive nature, there tends to be less residue on cleaned and treated surfaces, which can reduce post-blast cleanup, saving both money and time. Another reason for its low cost is due to the limited disposal costs, thanks to being non-hazardous.
USED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
Because glass beads are less abrasive than other grit blasting materials, it is often used to remove paint and prepare surfaces in the automotive industry. Glass beads remove only the surface coating, whether it be paint or rust, and do not damage the surface material below.
When it comes to parts such as body panels on cars and other vehicles, glass grit is often preceded by steel grit blasting, which due to its higher abrasion properties, is used to quickly remove initial coating layers of paint or rust. Glass grit is then a great option to finish the process due to the high shine finish that it results in.
