Low friction coatings are a popular type of industrial coatings and are widely used for many engineering applications. They provide dry lubrication and low coefficient of friction to mating surfaces enabling machinery to run smoothly, efficiently and reducing downtime.
Low friction coatings help deliver cleaner, more efficient engineering solutions and help extend the life of the parts. They prevent scoring, reduce wear and galling. Moving parts that are coated with low friction coatings generate less heat as friction properties are reduced. Long periods of inactivity between mating surfaces can often generate high static friction– the use of a low friction coating will help reduce this.
These types of coatings provide effective lubrication in a wide range of loads, in many cases exceeding 150,000 psi (10,500kg/cm²). They provide friction reduction and control in harsh conditions and are suitable for tough mechanical applications. Coefficient of friction readings as low 0.02 can be achieved.
AFT offers an extensive range of low friction and dry film lubrication coatings that adhere excellently to most metals, plastics, ceramics, and wood. They typically contain MoS2 (molybdenum disulphide), graphite or PTFE lubricating solids. The coatings provide friction control and surface release solutions for a wide range of industrial applications where liquid lubricants cannot be used. They can also provide secondary lubrication in the event of failure of the primary (conventional) lubricant.
By working closely with our key suppliers, precise formulations can be engineered to provide customized options that meet with your exact requirements. If you let us know your operating conditions and service requirements, we can select the right coating for the job.
The coatings are thermally cured and bonded to the base metal of the coated part. Our service is delivered by an experienced skilled workforce and backed up by a comprehensive quality system and coating testing facility.
